Dr. Jacquelyn Strait (Dr. Jacque) is a licensed psychologist and the owner of Winding Way Therapy, a private practice offering comprehensive psychological services within the Greater Houston (Texas) area. Dr. Strait is also licensed as a medical psychologist in the state of Louisiana, and as a conditional prescribing psychologist in the state of New Mexico.
With over 19 years of experience in the helping professions and 10 years in private practice, she has provided psychological services to children, adolescents, and adults throughout her career. Dr. Jacque specializes in providing targeted and individualized psychological treatment to African American professionals. With a focus on working with adults, she ensures that treatment is specifically tailored to their unique goals and needs. Dr. Strait also provides medication management services in Louisiana and New Mexico.
Dr. Jacque is deeply committed to providing culturally competent care and advancing advocacy efforts for people of color. She has conducted extensive research on racial identity development, cultural competency, and the impact of colorblindness in the field of counseling psychology. Additionally, she has actively participated in neuropsychological research aimed at assessing stroke literacy efforts within the African American community in Appalachia.
Community involvement and advocacy hold great importance for Dr. Jacque. She served as the co-chair of Melanin Minds Matter, a non-profit, school-based organization that offers mental health education to girls of color. Furthermore, she is a proud member of the Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity, and Race (Division 45) and the Society for Psychopharmacology (Division 55). In recognition of her dedication, Dr. Jacque was selected to participate in the prestigious Emerging Leaders Program of the Texas Psychological Association in 2023. In this role, she is actively involved in promoting diversity and inclusion efforts at the Texas state legislative level.
Dr. Jacque’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Baylor University, a Master’s Degree in Behavioral Science-Psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from West Virginia University. Dr. Strait, in her efforts to provide comprehensive care, also completed a post-doctoral Master of Science program in Clinical Psychopharmacology from New Mexico State University and is licensed as a medical psychologist in Louisiana and a conditional prescribing psychologist in New Mexico.
